Dear New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker:

Some times, you are genuinely irritating.

Which is because you insist on getting a happy warrior in grumpy moments. With that everlasting, inner and, sure, infernal sunshine of yours, you are to the physique politic as that 1-877-Kars4Young ones ad would be to a man with a hangover.

You float on pink clouds of bipartisan bonhomie, creating pals of opponents, shoveling constituents’ driveways, racial slights bouncing off you like bullets off Superman, so upbeat, you make Fred Rogers search like Lewis Black. Even one of your former aides the moment stated, “Sometimes it is like, give me a break, Cory, take it down a notch.” This was in a Politico profile under the headline, “Is Cory Booker For Authentic?”

So of course, senator, some times you’re really troublesome. But there are other times, too. Wednesday was a person of them.

Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was testifying prior to the Senate Judiciary Committee weighing her ascension to the Supreme Court, wherever she would be the 1st African-American woman in its 232-calendar year record. The clownish grandstanding of senators like Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham ended up in whole flower, shows of performative distress more than phantom problems obtaining absolutely nothing to do with her exercise, and every thing to do with producing their contempt palpable.

Why contempt? Does it even need to have expressing?

If so, transform to conservative troll Charlie Kirk, who told his viewers Brown represents “your state on CRT.” As if that was in some way as well delicate, he went on to alert that, “Your young children and your grandchildren are going to have to choose orders from persons like her.”

Persons. Like. Her.
