HBCUs receive $9.7 million from National Park Service to preserve historic sites

Congress appropriates funding for the application through the  Historic Preservation Fund  (HPF), which makes use of income from federal oil and gas leases on the Outer Continental Shelf.

Accredited HBCUs are suitable to apply for this grant application, and suitable projects consist of bodily preservation of sites outlined in or eligible for the Countrywide Sign-up of Historic Locations.

Initiatives receiving grants this year will maintain stories, assets, and spots. Three Mississippi HBCUs have been selected to get grants for tasks:

  • Jackson Point out College- $500,000, Preserving Ayer Corridor the Margaret Walker Centre.
  • Jackson Point out University- $150,000, Rehabilitation of the Council of Federated Organizations (COFO) Center .
  • Tougaloo University- $500,000, Preservation Initiative for Woodworth Chapel, the Boddie Mansion, Galloway Corridor, and Holmes Hall .
  • Rust Higher education- $500,000, Rehabilitation of Washington Hall.
