Everyone has choices…everyday and throughout our entire lives. Most choices are simple such as which shoes to wear or what to have for lunch. However, some choices have far reaching consequences which can affect our lives and other’s lives indefinitely.
One of the most significant choices in our recent history and culture is what a woman decides when she gets pregnant, either voluntarily or otherwise. With the legal and political system changes over the past 30 to 40 years it has become quite easy to make the choice to destroy an unborn child. Notice that I did not refer to “abortion” or “a woman’s right to choose”, rather I call this choice what it is without the cloak of political correctness…”destroying an unborn child”.
Let’s forget for the moment about the law or political correctness. Before Roe v. Wade some woman chose to find ways to destroy their unborn children anyway. So let me be clear that the only effect of these legal changes was to make this choice more acceptable and readily available.
So, what does choice have to do with anything? Well, it is my humble opinion that choice has everything to do with the issue regarding the fate of an unborn child. No law regarding pro-choice, pro-life or pro basketball (sorry, couldn’t resist) can change people’s hearts. That must come from a higher source…one much higher than you, me or government.
Then who is affected by this choice other than the obvious? Most of us think only of the mother and the unfortunate fetus. But what about the father, grandparents and other relatives who have no choice in the matter. Oh! That’s right we have been conditioned to believe that it is the woman’s right to do with her body as she pleases. The only problem (again, political correctness aside) is that there is a whole new person depending on the mother to make the right decision to allow him or her to have a shot at continued life.
The only thing that we can do to protect the unborn children of this world is to try to change hearts and minds regarding the real gravity and tragedy which goes beyond political correctness and/or ridiculous self-serving arguments. I have rights, you have rights and for God’s sake our pets have rights…but the little unborn baby has NONE!
This is not a personal judgment on any woman who has terminated an innocent life. I’m sure many of you have regrets, and for those who don’t have any remorse I can only pray that your hearts will soften in time. I know that our Lord is forgiving if we just ask.
Choosing to eliminate an unborn baby from this world is now and has always been a moral issue for our culture and society as well as each of us individually. However, you don’t even have to believe in God to see the need to respect and protect innocent life… if we are to succeed as a civilized world.
I have choices…You have choices. I choose to support, protect and nurture innocent human life before and after birth. Will you please join me?
